Canceling, closing your account and exporting data

What happens when you cancel a site's plan, close an account or close your login, and how to export articles, inquiries and photos in one go. You can do all of this yourself in the dashboard.

Siteon is infrastructure for AI-built websites: it adds hosting, a CMS your client can edit, contact forms, analytics and control from AI agents (CLI and MCP) around static HTML built with AI or by hand, so it is ready to ship.

What you can do, and who can do it

Every step can be done yourself from the dashboard. There's no waiting on anyone to process a request.

Cancel the account's subscription (at period end)Account owner, admin, billing managerSame as above

Canceling a plan

You can cancel per site, or cancel the account's whole subscription. Either way, the change takes effect at the end of the billing period, and until then you keep your current plan. You can undo a cancellation within the period. Canceling the last paid site cancels the account's subscription as well.

A site whose plan has ended is treated the same as the Free plan.

After canceling
Site displayKeeps working
Sites published on hostingStill served and still indexed by search engines. A small "Made with Siteon" badge appears in a corner of the page, and the Free plan's limits apply. New publishes (deploy) are possible within the Free plan's limits
Form submissionsStop on the production domain. Development domains and the siteun.com subdomain still accept them within the Free allowance
Editing in the dashboardStops for sites with a production domain registered. The site shows the original text written in the HTML, or the last published content
Going paid againSign up again in the dashboard at any time (as a new subscription)

If a site stays on our hosting and you want to keep edits made in the dashboard, copy them into the HTML before canceling.

Exporting data

You can download the data for every site in the account as a zip. Use it as a backup before closing the account, or to move to another system.

FileContents
sites/<SITE_ID>/site.jsonSite name, allowed domains, plan, schema and settings (secret values such as webhook URLs are masked)
sites/<SITE_ID>/entries.jsonArticles
sites/<SITE_ID>/values.jsonValues of editable areas (per locale)
sites/<SITE_ID>/tags.jsonTags
sites/<SITE_ID>/submissions.csvForm inquiries (opens in Excel)
sites/<SITE_ID>/assets.csv and assets/Photos and videos (the part column says which zip each file is in)
account.json, README.txtAccount information and a description of the contents
  • With many photos, the export is split into one zip per 1GB
  • Creating an export can take a while when there's a lot of data. A finished export can be downloaded for 7 days
  • Downloading requires you to verify your identity again. The download link expires after 15 minutes
  • Files published on hosting (HTML, CSS, etc.) are not included. Keep your build output locally or in your repository

Closing the account

The account owner closes the account after verifying their identity and typing the account name.

  1. If there is an active subscription, it ends immediately (no prorated refunds)
  2. All sites stop (display, forms and hosting all return 404). All API keys are revoked
  3. There is a 30-day grace period. During it, owners and admins can log in only to export data and to "undo closing"
  4. After 30 days, articles, photos, inquiries and hosting files are permanently deleted
  • If you undo within the grace period, all sites come back. Paid plans are not restored, so every site becomes Free. To keep a custom domain or remove the badge, sign up for a paid plan again
  • Billing records (invoices, etc.) are kept for the period required by law. To prevent the free allowance from being claimed again, a matching value derived from your email address (in a form that can't be turned back into the address) is also kept
  • Subdomains you used can't be used by other accounts for 90 days

Closing your login

This deletes your own login. Do it from the account menu (top right) → "Personal settings" after verifying your identity.

  • You can't close your login while you are the last owner of any account. Make someone else an owner first, or close the account
  • Closing your login signs you out on every device, and any login links already sent stop working
  • Articles you wrote and API keys you issued belong to the account, so they remain (API keys show "Issuer has left" in the dashboard)
  • If you sign up again with the same email address, you won't get the free allowance a second time

This page is also available as Markdown. For AI agents, pass llms.txt (contents) or llms-full.txt (full text).
